HUNDREDS of people packed themselves into a small Flintshire village on Saturday to commemorate Armed Forces Day 2019.

Over 500 adults paid for their entry into the popular Sychdyn Carnival, with children and dogs doubling that attendance figure.

Visitors were able to look around the many pop-up stalls owned by local businesses and treat themselves to food and drinks throughout the carnival which lasted from 1-4pm.

Children, meanwhile, particularly enjoyed the bungee trampolining and inflatable funhouses, while many stopped to watch the Sychdyn Carnival Dog Show that took place.

The North West Military Collectors – a non-profit organisation who re-enact WWII battles - also attended the festival on a day which commemorates all who serve or have served in the Armed Forces.

About the latest Sychdyn Carnival, Chair of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Marion Bateman, said: “It’s been such a resounding success.

“I’m really pleased that the Sychdyn Carnival was able to help commemorate the veterans and people who have served in the Armed Forces.

“I’d like to thank all of the people involved for their hard work, and also all of the stalls for showing their support. Same again next year!”

However, despite the weekend success,

there are doubts about whether the carnival will go ahead again next year

if no volunteers step forward to support the committee who organise it.
