A PRIDE event has been cancelled after its venue was flooded.

Flintshire Pride Presents was due to take place at Mold Rugby Club on Saturday.

The event was to offer a day of information and celebration with workshops, stalls and live entertainment.

But on Thursday night, organisers announced it had been cancelled.

A spokesman told the Leader: "We’ve had to cancel because the rugby pitch is totally flooded.

"We had people travelling up for it and didn’t want to chance it.

"This is really unfortunate as many groups had put a lot of work into hosting the event.

"We would like to thank Mold Rugby Club for their help and all the groups who had worked hard to help us make this event a success."

The spokesman explained that Pride Presents had been the first creation of a new working group within Flintshire Pride and had been set up as a smaller event in order to raise funds for next year's Flintshire Pride event.

Organisers will be holding more events before the Flintshire Pride event in 2020 to continue raising funds.

The spokesman added: "We as a group will be bringing Flintshire Pride back next year.

"We are going to be meeting after the summer to start arrangements for it."

Delyn AM Hannah Blythyn expressed her disappointment at the news.

She said: "It's really unfortunate that Flintshire Pride had to be cancelled due to the weather conditions. "While this was disappointing, preparations are underway to make sure next year’s event returns bigger and better than ever, while a series of other events are planned for the rest of this year – with details to follow.

Flintshire Pride organisers have called on the public to follow their facebook page (@FlintshirePrideEvent) for news of future activities and events.
