HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised following an annual tradition of rubber duck racing in Flint.

The Flint Coastguard Rescue Team raised a total of £605 - including donations - from their annual Duck Race at The Yacht Inn, in Oakenholt on Bank Holiday Monday.

The funds will go towards the Coastguard Association Charity, a national charity that aims to provide help and financial support to both serving and former coastguards in need.

Garry Jones, Station Officer and organiser of the Duck Race said: “It was a fantastic day in spite of some poor weather. We have received excellent feedback from families that attended who thoroughly enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the next one”.

Despite some intervals of rain, the event was well attended and had lots of activities on offer for families from bouncy castles and face painting to a BBQ and ice cream van.

A spokesman for the unit added: “Flint Coastguard Team would like to thank everyone that attended the event, and for your generous donations. Also, a big thank you to all the local businesses that sponsored a race, the support we have received has been overwhelming.”

The team also thanked the Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team for continuing to support the yearly event and the new mayor of Flint – Cllr Norma Davies - who launched the first race.
