RESIDENTS of a Flintshire town are being encouraged to help rescued animals in need this year by supporting a fundraising initiative at a local pet store.

Pets At Home, in Queensferry, will be raising money for Almost Home Dog Rescue after teaming up with the centre as part of a new initiative for the largest grant giving animal charity in the United Kingdom.

Support Adoption For Pets, has launched a brand new Charity of the Year initiative which will see rescue centres across the nation build relationships with local Pets At Home stores to work together in raising vital funds for the rescues.

As part of the initiative, Queensferry’s Pets At Home store will be holding its first in-store summer fundraiser on Friday, May 17, in a bid to raise money and awareness for the Almost Home Dog Rescue.

Pets At Home stores across the UK have been set an ambitious target of generating £500,000 for its animal rescue centres by the Support Adoption For Pets charity.

Kristie Daniels, store manager at Pets at Home Queensferry said: “We’re delighted to be raising money for Almost Home Dog Rescue this year, and hope that the people of Queensferry will get involved and support us on our fundraising mission.

“We have ambitious goals for our summer fundraising appeal, and every donation will help a rescue pet in need.”

It is hoped that the initiative will help local communities understand the importance of the work that rescue centres do, while it also allows them to utilise resources in the Pets at Home store, including access to the community boards and donated pallets of stock.

A range of activities will be taking place in the Pets At Home store from May 17 to June 13, with customers and animal-lovers alike being afforded the chance to interact with the rescue centre team.

Amy Wilson, Fundraising Manager for Support Adoption For Pets, said: “The summer fundraising appeal is a great opportunity for people to support their local rescue to give pets looking for a home the vital care they deserve.

“Even the smallest of donations can make a huge difference to a pet rescue centre.”

Donations of just 50p are enough to give breakfast to a rescue pet, while £1 can fund meals throughout the day. £5 is enough to provide food for a week, and £15 would fund an entire month of food for a rescue pet.

If you wish to donate to the cause, you can do so either at the Pets At Home store tills or through
