'SHOCKED' Flintshire residents have reacted to the 'very sad' news that a medical centre has shut with immediate effect.

Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board announced on Tuesday that Bromfield Medical Centre in Mold had shut suddenly, leaving its registered patients uncertain of where they will be able to receive medical attention.

Betsi has said that registered patients, of which there are about 2,000, 'will receive a letter as soon as possible to give further information', and has told anyone with an existing appointment to ring 01352 700212.

But people who were registered with the practice, owned by Dr Sekela Mwambingu, have expressed their sadness over its closure and concern for where they will receive future treatment.

Sheila Lloyd said: "It’s hard to find doctors that care anymore and they really did care for me and all my I've boys.

"I’ve been with them since the day they opened, they've always been fantastic with us all. We're going to miss them."

The suddenness of the news is highlighted by the fact Leisa Roberts said she had only registered her son at the practice last week.

Laura Jayne Makin said: "They're only doctor's really care about there patients. What do we do now? I'm shocked.

Richard Hogg added: "This is very sad. The practice and its staff went that extra mile and you felt as if they genuinely cared."

Both Betsi Cadwaldr and Bromfield Medical Centre were approached for further comment as to the nature of the closure.

A Betsi Cadwaldr spokesman said on Tuesday: "We have been notified of the closure with immediate effect of the Bromfield Medical Centre, Mold owned by Dr Sekela Mwambingu.

"We have made arrangements to ensure patients continue to have a service and access to a GP. Patients of the practice will receive a letter as soon as possible to give further information.

"We are also supporting staff at the practice at this difficult time. Patients of the practice who have an existing appointment or need to see a GP please contact 01352 700212."
