A LOCAL dad has undertaken a 24 hour treadmill challenge in memory of toddler, Josh McHugh, who would have celebrated his fourth birthday this year.

The fundraiser saw Holywell resident, Daniel Thomas running 90 miles on a treadmill over a 24 hour period on Friday, May 3.

Mr Thomas, set off this challenge at 10am on May, 3rd at Holywell's Leisure Centre in the hope to help St Winefride's Catholic Primary School to reach their £14,000 target in order to revamp their yard.

Speaking on what motivated him to undertake this particular challenge in memory of Josh, who was a former pupil at the school, Mr Thomas said: "My daughter was in the same class as Josh.

The Leader:

"Josh would have been four this year on July, 13th and I am doing this in order to keep his memory alive."

The former joiner, who changed his career to become a personal trainer, after his son, Albie-Junior, had his left foot amputated due to a foot deformity, known as fibula hemimelia, expressed how running has had such a positive impact on not only himself but also on the lives of his family.

He said: "I started running last year to show my two year old son, that he can achieve anything in life, despite what is thrown at him, even possibly becoming a contestant at The Paralympics.

The Leader:

So far, £2,300 out of the £5,000 goal has been raised.

Money raised from this fundraiser will go towards St Winefride's Catholic Primary School's £14,000 target, which will allow them to revamp the school yard with new fences, an artificial grass area, an all-weather shaded area and a large apparatus play area.
