A drug dealer caught with a potential £600,000 haul of cocaine and heroin along with a sawn-off shotgun in a container in Wrexham has been jailed for 10 years and four months.

Robert James Jarvis was said to have played a “leading role” in an operation which could have flooded the area’s streets with hard drugs.

Jarvis - who received a 10-year sentence for an aggravated burglary and wounding in 2010 - was told by Judge Rhys Rowlands he had been motivated by the profit he could make from the large quantity of drugs seized.

In particular, a large amount of adulterating agent found in the lock-up in Borras would have enabled the drug dealer to increase his profits from his weighing and bagging operation and boost the street value of the cocaine to around £500,000.

Judge Rowlands told Jarvis: “In view of the amounts of cocaine and heroin recovered you were involved in distributing Class A drugs on a huge scale in the Wrexham area. You were profiting from the misery of those addicted to such drugs and the problems visited on the wider community such as the thefts committed by those who need to fund their addictions.”

Jarvis, 33, of no fixed abode, admitted possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply diamorhphine (heroin), possession of fire arms, possession of a firearm without a certificate, possession of ammunition and possession of criminal property (cash), all on January 23 this year.

Det. Ins Mark Hughes said: “Robert Jarvis has been a major criminal figure in the illegal drugs trade in Wrexham and is now behind bars where he belongs. In a well-planned operation officers seized £596,000 worth of drugs, a substantial amount of cash and five shotguns and ammunition.

“This was a significant haul and I hope the public will feel reassured that these drugs didn’t make their way to his vulnerable victims, that the weapons have been seized and that justice has been done.”
