A FISHING competition has raised £1,500 for a hospice.

Maelor Foods held a fishing competition at Common Wood fisheries in Holt, which raised a total of £1,500 for Nightingale House Hospice.

The idea came from Martin Venables, who is a keen fisherman himself.

He said: “As the training supervisor for Maelor Foods, I wanted to do something outside of work for the fantastic workforce and thought of a fishing competition.

"Leah Samuels, kindly arrange the location of common wood fisheries, so a big thank you to them it was decided that the money raised should go to the Nightingale House, as it is a close to home charity which has been part of the lives of many of the employees at Maelor."

Jessica Druce, hospice community fundraiser said: “We are very grateful for Maelor foods for taking time out of their busy days to organise this event and raising a fantastic amount for patient care, without businesses running these types of events we wouldn’t be able to give the specialist care that we offer to our community free of charge.

"Thank you to everyone who helped this event to be so successful and we hope to continue to work with Maelor foods in the future.”

Prizes were given for biggest fish, which won by Simon Davies won, with Martin only catching weeds.
