A SCIENTIST from the BBC’s ‘One Show’ has visited Techniquest Glyndŵr in Wrexham.

Around 200 lucky schoolchildren aged seven to 11 from seven primary schools in the Wrexham and Chester areas were invited to Techniquest Glyndŵr to be treated to an eventful hour-long show delivered by BBC TV ‘One Show’ star Marty Jopson as part of Wrexham’s ‘Carnival of Words’ Festival hosted at Techniquest Glyndŵr.

During their visit the children spent an hour or two exploring the five zones of the centre with its 65 interactive science exhibits together with its outdoor Science Garden before assembling in the Catrin Finch Centre on the Wrexham Glyndŵr University Campus to be part of the show.

As well as wowing the young audience with his engaging science experiments, Marty was in Wrexham to promote his recently published book ‘The Science of Food’.

The One Show’s resident scientist took the children on a tour of food related science including several dramatic explosions. Exploring the science behind a meal including a burger, salad and cake he introduced all sorts of fascinating facts about how food is produced and explaining how its production produces powerful greenhouse gases such as methane.

Mandy Jones, the event organiser from Techniquest Glyndŵr said: “It was a pleasure having someone of Marty’s stature in the STEM (Science, Maths and Engineering) industry visit Techniquest Glyndŵr. It was evident that throughout the event the children were blown away by the amazing display and we hope they take this away with them the excitement of science firmly in mind.

“This event gave us the chance to take live science from the TV studio and into the heart of our community, using it to inspire several primary schools by bringing top stars of the science world to Wrexham.

“This is one of many exciting events and projects at Techniquest Glyndŵr over the coming months with numerous announcements and celebrations to come”.
