A CAR was stolen in Wrexham after thieves took the keys having entered a house while its owners watched television just yards away.

Police said the car – a white SEAT Leon Cupra – was taken after thieves made their way into a property in Rossett at approximately 10pm on Sunday (April 28).

The homeowners, who wish to remain anonymous, were watching hit television show ‘Line of Duty’ in the front room when the intruders entered the house via an unlocked back door.

They took the homeowner’s car keys, as well as a purse and wallet with the owners just meters away.

The homeowner explained: “I was watching Line of Duty with my wife and son when a neighbour knocked on the door to say he had just seen a young lad drive off in the car.

“We called the police immediately and we then checked to look for the keys and they were missing.

“The front door was locked, but it looks like they had climbed over the gate and got into the rear of the house, walked into the kitchen and down the hallway to get the keys - they went right past the door by my wife without her noticing.

"Our back door was unlocked - it's locked most of the time but my wife had been sorting out the recycling and had been in and out and forgot this time - normally it is kept locked."

The theft comes just over a week after a campervan was stolen from a driveway in Rossett as the owners packed to go on holiday.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: "We were called at 10pm on April 28 to reports of a burglary in Rossett.

"A car, a purse and wallet were taken. The incident remains under investigation and enquiries are ongoing.
