A CARER who had a rare night out because she did not have the children was seen getting into a car in a drunken condition.

Mother-of-four Jemma Louise Jones, 33, was caught on CCTV. She was seen to narrowly miss a wall as she drove from the Albion car park in Wrexham.

The car came to a stop in Tuttle Street and Jones started to walk off as police arrived.

Jones, of Queensway, Caia Park, admitted driving an Astra on April 6 when more than twice the drink-drive limit.

She also admitted not having insurance together with a driving licence offence.

At North East Wales Magistrates Court at Mold she was disqualified for 22 months and fined £360 with £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.

The court heard Jones was found to have an alcohol reading of 80 microgrammes compared to the legal limit of 35.

District judge Gwyn Jones said the case had a number of aggravating features.

Prosecutor Justin Espie said CCTV operators contacted police to say a woman appeared drunk and was getting into a vehicle in the car park.

Driven forward, it narrowly missed a wall and then reversed.

The vehicle left the car park and came to a stop nearby.

Jones started to walk away from police officers but was arrested.

Victoria Handley, defending, said her client had a very rare night out. She did not have the children that evening.

The purpose of driving the vehicle was not to drive it away but simply to drive it out of the car park.

Unfortunately she was under the influence of alcohol at the time and would now have to pay the penalty.

Miss Handley said Jones was working as a carer and was planning to go to university in September to undertake a nursing course.

She was now in a new relationship.
