FIREFIGHTERS have been praised for their speedy response after tackling vehicle fires which spread to a property.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service received a call just before 6.45pm on Monday reporting a blaze at an address in Maes Glyndwr, Treuddyn.

Two crews attended the scene – one each from Mold and Buckley – to tackle what had started as a vehicle fire but spread to a garage as well.

The Leader:

Residents in Maes Glyndwr described what they saw.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: "I saw a bit of a flame under the car and then it just went up straight away.

"It was amazing how fast it happened. That car then rolled into another car, which went on fire, then the garage as well.

"It was quite scary to watch."

The Leader:

Neighbour Arwen O'Neill said: "I was having my dinner when I heard a pop, then another.

"When I went outside to look, the car was completely engulfed in flames. It was massive."

The owner of the car, Aaron Murray, had only just parked it before it burst into flames.

The Leader:

His partner Ashleigh Fielder, who has two children, said: "He had just pulled up on the drive and came into the house saying his car was smoking.

"Then it went up, spread to my car and then the garage.

"It was scary but the fire service was here very quickly and they did a brilliant job."

The Leader:

Mr Murray said: "My engine warning light came on as I was coming into the village.

"When I came round the corner and came onto the drive, I saw the smoke coming from under the car – then there were flames.

"I shouted to my partner to call the fire brigade and I'd like to thank the firefighters.

The Leader:

"They got here quickly and did a great job."

North Wales Fire and Rescue said the cause of the fire was an electrical fault.
