RESIDENTS in a Wrexham care home are looking forward to a series of exciting activities as new management continues to improve facilities.

Stansty House took action after the Care Inspectorate for Wales (CIW) found that it was not “meeting the needs of all the people living in the home”.

A new manager was appointed and in its most recent inspection in January, there has been a vast improvement recorded.

The report stated: “A new manager has been appointed, the manager is pro-active and receptive to feedback. A senior management restructure has also been undertaken and these changes have helped to improve staff morale.

“Staff feel better supported and valued and enjoy coming into work. This ultimately has a positive impact on the care and support people receive.

“Staffing levels have improved, staff are less rushed and have time for people, which means people don’t feel ignored. Staff were positive about the changes made/being made.”

Tina Isted, the new manager at Stansty House, said: “I’ve been in the post since last September and together with the whole team we’ve worked really hard to turn the report around.

“Previously the care home was having trouble recruiting carers and we were running on agency but now we’ve only got one position to fill. This has been so important in ensuring we have a continuity of care and means residents are getting to know their staff members too.

“Both staff and relatives have commented on how much the atmosphere in the care home has changed and it has been a real team effort to get to this stage.”

The report found that residents are being kept entertained and plans for this are continuing throughout the year.

There are regular Zumba classes which Tina says the residents love, singers and local school and church choirs come in to perform and there are now comedy shows on offer too.

Last month residents were treated to a visit from a home safari which brought in owls and next on the agenda is an Easter raffle and fun fair.

Tina said: “The residents seem to love the entertainment on offer – especially some of the singers. It really brightens them up and gets them going.”

The Stansty House Easter raffle is being held over Easter weekend with tickets at £1 a strip. It is open to everyone.

A 'bigger and better' summer fair including a DJ, karaoke and children’s games is also planned for July 25 from 11.30am to 3pm. There will also be fish and chips available, face painting, stalls, belly dancing and a bouncy castle.

Tina added: “Everyone is looking forward to the day and are all getting involved, and we’re hoping for a really good turnout. All money raised will go towards the residents comfort funds.”
