A FLINT high school has welcomed the appointment of its new headteacher.

Following the retirement of Paul Heitzman, St Richard Gwyn Catholic School has announced Catherine McCormack will take up her post in September.

Having a strong commitment to Catholic education, she has already served in Catholic schools in London, Cardiff, Liverpool and St Helens.

Catherine currently holds the position of acting head of school in St Helens and also has experience of deputy headship in two secondary schools.

She said: "I am very much looking forward to leading St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School on its continuing journey of improvement, especially at such an exciting time of change for education in Wales."

Catherine will be visiting St Richard Gwyn during the Summer Term to meet with staff to prepare for the new school year in September.

Mr John Callan, chair of the governing body at St Richard Gwyn, added: "I am delighted to welcome such a successful and experienced Head to the school. This appointment had the unanimous approval of the Governing Body and representatives from the Diocese and Local Authority.

"I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and valued contribution."
