SAINSBURY'S in Flint are celebrating a brilliant achievement of raising thousands for Comic Relief.

Store colleagues took part in several fundraising events during Red Nose Day, from Friday March 15 to Sunday March 17, raising a grand total of almost £9000 with help from loyal shoppers and other local schools, charities and organisations.

Activities included bag packing, a walk up Moel Famau in Mold, Red Nose Design Competition, scratch card and merchandise sales as well as fundraising with local schools and charities.

Mark Jones, Store Manager for Flint Sainsbury's, said: "Our colleagues always go the extra mile for Red Nose Day, and this year was no exception. I would like to thank all of our customers who donated and to the amazing local schools and groups that worked with us.

“It was a fantastic year for Sainsbury's Flint raising £8886.91 and it is brilliant to know we contributed to the impressive figure donated from Sainsbury's to Comic Relief."

The store also had colleagues dressing up in red for the weekend following Red Nose Day, telling customers jokes for donations and riding on an exercise bike in store in fancy dress.

On Red Nose Day, Sainsbury's announced it had raised over £11 million for the charity with additional funds yet to be collected from stores across the country.

Local charities and groups did their bit to help fundraise with Flint Lions, Flint Town under 11’s Football Team, Flint RNLI and Delyn Gymnastics bag packing for Comic Relief raising over £1,818.

Local schools also paid in their fundraising via Sainsbury’s tills including St Winefride’s Catholic Primary School, in Holywell, who raised £245, Maes Glas in Greenfield raised £188, Ysgol Y Waun in Mold with £113 and Ysgol Croes Atti in Flint put forward £107.
