Jack Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside, said: "What a fantastic achievement by the Welsh Rugby Union squad and back room staff. The determination and together was clear throughout the tournament and was the difference between Ireland on Saturday.

"I was extremely lucky to be at the game and join hundreds at the Senedd to welcome and celebrate with the team.

"Welsh Rugby is a growing sport in North Wales and I hope this achievement can boost the sport in our region.

"In the future I hope to see many of our North Wales future generations playing proudly for our nation and bringing home their own Grand Slam."

The team was welcomed on the steps of the Senedd in front of hundreds of chanting fans for an evening celebration.

The result was the country's fourth Grand Slam in 14 years as they won 25-7 against Ireland.

Ken Skates, Economy and Transport Minister, said he was delighted to meet the winning team on Monday evening and celebrate the fantastic achievement alongside Welsh supporters.

"The side’s clean sweep is a real inspiration to us all and shows yet again that although we may be a small country in size, we are more than capable of big sporting achievements.

"It’s great preparation for this year’s World Cup and we’ll all be rooting for them again as they aim to bring the trophy home from Japan."
