A MAN from Wrexham is inviting people suffering from prostate caner to join a support group.

As March has been designated as the Prostate Cancer Awareness Month a national campaign to provide men with clear advice on prostate cancer is to be launched throughout the UK.

The campaign outlines the associated issues and encourages men to discuss their individual risk and testing options with their doctor.

As part of this campaign, Malcolm Williams, from Marford is encouraging people in Wrexham to join his local support group.

He said: “The key message which needs to come across is the importance of early detection.

"The facts speak for themselves, men with localised prostate cancer who are identified and treated early are known to have a cure rate which can be in excess of 90 per-cent.

"In the UK we are blessed with an exceptional level of care from Prostate Cancer UK and indeed, the Macmillan organisation. In addition of course we have wonderful support from the medical staff at the Oncology Department at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Mr Williams added: “I am a founder member of the Wrexham support group and we are firmly behind this awareness campaign. Our group is not exactly widely known so through this article, I offer an open invitation to join us.

"The aim of our group is to provide support primarily for those who have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer or on the journey to recovery following treatment. The invitations are also extended to partners and their families.

"First and foremost, what we do discuss is totally confidential but it is held in low key environment and stories and anecdotes are shared with empathy and humour. Rest assured the warmest of welcomes are provided for those who choose to join us."

The group meet at the Nags Head, in Mount Street on the first Wednesday every month at 7pm. Meetings are held in the upstairs function rooms for privacy.
