A YOUNG girl with Down syndrome has taken part in a modelling shoot to help challenge prejudice against the disorder.

Every year World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March, 21, encouraging people all over the world to raise awareness of what Down syndrome is, what it means to have Down syndrome, and how people with Down syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities.

This year, Zebedee Management have collaborated with the Radical Beauty Project on their first ever group shoot for World Down Syndrome Day, inviting sixteen different people suffering with the disorder, from all over Britain, to take part and challenge prejudice against it.

One of those people is Cora Bishop, a seven-year-old primary school pupil from Wrexham, who landed the campaign after her mother signed her up to the Zebedee Management agency in Sheffield, which specialises in working with people with disabilities.

Cora’s mum, Sheryl Bishop has praised the project, while describing her pride in seeing her daughter take part in it.

"This project shows the beautiful diversity of people with Downs Syndrome. We are thrilled that Cora has been involved. We want the world to see her for who she is, and projects like this help us do that."

However, this is not Cora’s first experience in front of the camera’s, as the young girl has also appeared in the high street chain, River Island’s ‘Labels Are For Clothes’ campaign, which celebrated diversity, and she is also the face of the new range of children's glasses at Specsavers.

A spokesperson from Zebedee Management said:

“All the models featured have Down Syndrome and look every inch the supermodels they are.

“When it comes to Down syndrome, most people are so prejudiced (for many a reason, and we aim at challenging these reasons in the process) that they can’t see the forest for the trees and keep these very capable individuals back, in the shadows preferably.

“Actually, they are pretty sure there’s no forest, they strongly believe there’s just one tree called Down syndrome, end of.

“We are desperate to change that and reveal to everyone the huge forest beyond the trees, the endless abilities people with Down syndrome have, when given the chance!

“That is why we are beyond thrilled and excited to announce our unique collaboration with the pioneering and daring Radical Beauty Project. Its creator, choreographer Daniel Vais, believes like we do, in the incredible beauty, uniqueness and abilities of people with Down syndrome, and he worries about their doom.

“At Zebedee Management, we share the same vision and strive for designers and luxury brands to include diverse models, from the designing process all the way to representation in the media and on the runway.

“We have some major bands booking our models repeatedly and are now seen as one if not the leading agency in representing talent with disabilities, differences and additional needs.
