An investigation which was launched after a young boy was hit by a car could lead to highway improvements, council chiefs have said.

Owen Hanmer, 11, was hit was a car on March 12 when he was walking his dog on Wrexham Road - which runs through Abermorddu.

The Leader has previously reported that residents are calling for speed reductions from 40mph to 30mph before someone is seriously injured.

Mum Martine said Owen is a lucky boy as the woman driving the car was going below the speed limit, if she was going any faster it would have been a different outcome.

A spokesman for Flintshire County Council said they are working with North Wales Police in order to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.

They added: "Although the outcome of the investigation is not known at present, any highway improvements that may be highlighted will be prioritised for funding when assessed in accordance with the Authorities Safety Scheme Matrix."

A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed they received a call at 6.02pm to reports that a boy had been hit by a white Fiat car on Wrexham road.

An ambulance crew arrived and the 11-year-old was taken to hospital for a check up.

The campaign for speed reductions along that stretch of road has been started by Mrs Denise Pope who is a local resident.

She previously told the Leader: "It is not safe for us pedestrians and, with these types of accidents, it is a surprise that nobody has been killed."
