North Wales Freemasons have made seizable donations to two well known Wrexham institutions.

St Christopher's School and Nightingale House Hospice have received donations of £1,000 and £1,388 respectively.

The St Christopher’s donation will go towards the school's appeal for a new minibus with a tail lift to support wheelchair using students.

David Thomas, chairman of NWMBA visited St Christopher’s to present the cheque for £1,000 and enjoyed a guided tour of the school.

David said: “The enthusiasm and dedication of the teaching staff to meet the needs of the pupils was clear to see during our visit.

"We are delighted to have played our part in this appeal and look forward to seeing the new minibus in action in the very near future.”

Supported by The Lady Taverners Charity, St Christopher’s were faced with the daunting challenge of raising £18,000 towards the total cost of £60,000.

Ian Connell, assistant head, said “This latest £1,000 donation means we have reached our target and are now hoping to take delivery of our new minibus over the next few weeks.

"I would like to say thank you to North Wales Freemasons for their generous donation.”

Meanwhile Nightingale House received their grant via the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF).

Contributions from Freemasons to hospices have exceeded £13 million in England and Wales since 1984. This is just one of 237 grants to hospices around the country from Freemasons this year.

This includes £300,000 which will be distributed to each hospice that receives less than 60 per cent funding from the NHS. A further £300,000 will be provided to individual hospices across England and Wales via Hospice UK, the national charity for hospice care.

Provincial Grand Master for North Wales, John Hoult, was given a tour of Nightingale House by Steve Parry, chief executive and a warm welcome over coffee in Caffi Cwtch.

John Hoult said: “We are very grateful for the time taken by Steve to highlight the range of support facilities available at Nightingale House for those in need.

"The staff & volunteers are amazing and North Wales Freemasons will continue to support this wonderful asset within our local community."

Steve Parry said: “We were delighted to host John and his colleagues this morning and offer some insight into how the donations from North Wales Freemasons are greatly appreciated and wisely spent.”
