PROPOSALS to transform part of a farm into a glamping site have been given the green light.

The owners of Pant Glas Farm in Lloc, near Holywell applied to Flintshire Council to put a total of 16 pine camping pods on their land in December.

Planning officers have now approved the scheme using delegated powers.

Each pod will be equipped with living and bedroom facilities, including Wi-Fi, electricity, running water, a sink, shower and bathroom.

In her report, case officer Katie Jones said it would help to improve the rural economy.

She said: “The proposed development comprises the material change of use of land to allow the siting of 16 glamping pods, together with internal circulation track and associated infrastructure.

“It is understood that this proposal is put forward on the basis of it being a small scale farm diversification scheme, in order to support and subsidise the income generated from the farm at Pant Glas.

“The proposed site layout was amended following discussion with the case officer and now illustrates a scheme whereby the glamping pods are positioned around the perimeter of the site, using the existing hedgerow as a natural screen.

“Given the lucrative nature of the tourism industry in North Wales and along its coastline, I consider the proposal to bring positive benefits to the rural economy both in tourism and in supporting the survival of agriculture.”

The original application states that the design of the pods is in keeping with the natural beauty in the area

Each one will have its own individual parking space.

In their application, Philip, Dorothy and Eiry Read said it would help to make their business financially viable.

In a statement, they said: “Pant Glas farm has been a successful working farm for 17 years under the present ownership and for many years before that.

“However, due to modern farming practices the farm is no longer financially viable from agriculture alone.

“The following statement is a proposal to site 16 glamping pods on one field to supplement the income and profitability of the farm.

“The glamping pods will be standalone accommodation units for holidaymakers seeking a luxury camping experience in beautiful surroundings of Flintshire.

“Setting up a glamping site on these premises will benefit the local communities with an increase in holidaymakers using the local facilities and dining in local businesses nearby, supporting the local communities and bringing in businesses for the season.”
