Three members of staff at a Buckley beauty salon are taking on a tandem skydive to raise funds for a children’s hospice.

But the ladies, who all work at the Luxe Salon in Chester Road, Buckley and are raising funds for Hope House Children’s Hospices, aren’t best pleased that the woman whose idea it was pulled out due to unforeseen circumstances – she’s now pregnant.

Beautician Ann-Marie Wilcock, who runs the salon with her business partner Aimee Jones, says she came up with the idea, suggested it to Aimee and two employees but it was only after they signed up for the jump that she discovered she was expecting a baby in August.

She said: “I just thought we should do something big for charity. We support Hope House a great deal with things like the annual duck race. But a parachute jump sounded a bit of a bigger challenge.

“Of course the girls are not too pleased with me now. I truly had no idea I was pregnant when I signed us up for the challenge. But I will be there on the day to offer moral support.”

Business partner Aimee, who works at the salon as a sports therapist and beautician, said: “The jump is on Good Friday, April 19 at Whitchurch. It’s a tandem jump so we get checked to ensure we are physically fit enough and listen to a presentation and then go for it.”

She added: “Our hairdresser Terri Ratcliffe, nail technician, Lorna Maw and beautician Jennifer Rideout are doing the jump too. Let’s hope we raise a good sum of money for Hope House. We are going to just go for it.”

Nicola Sciarrillo, Hope House Children’s Hospice area fundraiser said: “I’m thrilled the Luxe girls are raising as much money as they can for the children and families cared for locally by Hope House.”

She added: “At Hope House Children’s Hospices we are committed to raising funds to support local children and families when they need us most.

“No one should suffer the death of a child alone.

“Sadly, three local children die each week and currently Hope House can only afford to help one of these families.

“We are committed to changing this.”
