A POORLY maintained main road in Flintshire is set for vital improvements.

The B5125, between Broughton and Hawarden, will undergo maintenance works to improve the condition of the pot-hole ridden stretch of road.

The road is the main link between Hawarden and Broughton, meaning it is a very busy stretch.

But it has fallen into disrepair, with numerous pot holes well over 100mm deep a familiar sight, raising fears for the safety of road users.

Work has already been completed on widening the footpath from the Manor Lane roundabout to Airbus, but residents had expressed concerns that the council were prioritising the wrong area for improvements. But the council has said the path widening is the first stage of general improvements to the highway, with next phase of the works seeing a resurfacing of the road.

Steve Jones, chief officer Streetscene and transportation said: “Following a successful bid by Flintshire Council for the Welsh Government’s road safety grant, improvement works to the footpath along the B5125 from Manor Lane Roundabout to Broughton Roundabout are part of a wider scheme improving the B5125 Ewloe to Broughton route.

“Further elements will include resurfacing sections of the B5125 between Manor Lane Roundabout and Broughton Roundabout, improving the approaches to Manor Lane Roundabout, and the implementation of a right turn facility into Hawarden Farm Shop.”
