A MAN was caught simulating sex by the side of his BMW in a layby on the A55.

Michael Joseph Jameson claimed he had no recollection of his “bizarre” journey from London to North Wales during which he shunted another vehicle and committed a lewd act near Holywell.

North East Wales Magistrates Court heard how Jameson, 37, removed his clothing and simulated an act of sexual intercourse by the side of the road.

All he could remember was how he had been on the way to catch a ferry at Holyhead to attend a family event.

Joanna Lindfield, chairman of the magistrates, ordered him to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work as part of a community order and told him: “We feel it was a bizarre episode which neither you nor we can explain and we hope that the order can assist you in getting help.”

Probation officer Jonny Belbin told the Mold court the only thing Jameson could remember was being arrested by police.

Jameson, he said, was suffering from stress caused by running a pub and had run up large debts.

“He can’t remember the dangerous driving or outraging public decency. He describes it as a mental breakdown caused by stress.

“He is greatly ashamed. He has a pub in Islington which he has undertaken for the last three years and he says it is very stressful.

"He has quite significant debts of £60,000 to £70,000 and he describes himself as having a problem with drink.

“He is concerned about his mental health since this incident.”

Jameson, 37, of Dalmeny Avenue, Islington, admitted dangerous driving, outraging public decency and assault at Holywell on June 16 last year.

Patrick Geddes, defending, told the magistrates: “It is a bizarre case.

"It is unusual for dangerous driving and outraging public decency to come before you in one case.

"He is at a loss to explain his behaviour, but he was under an enormous amount of pressure.

“The (arresting) officer assumed he was under the influence, but he was stone cold sober.

“He was struggling and he seems to have lost the plot. He obviously needs some sort of help.”

Magistrates also banned Jameson from driving for a year and told him to complete 20 rehabilitation activity days as well as pay £170 costs and surcharge.
