THRILL-SEEKERS are expected to converge on the Clwydian Range this weekend to take advantage of the recent snowfall - but are being reminded to think about the well-being of road users.

Last winter, snow attracted hundreds sledgers in the hilly fields around Loggerheads and Moel Famau but caused havoc with examples of cars parking on yellow lines, on both sides of the road and ignoring signage against parking on grass verges. As a result, nearby communities became increasingly concerned about congestion and general road safety issues, as well as some damage to fences in fields.

Denbighshire County Council (DCC) has asked this year's visitors to park more considerately to ensure the health and well-being of other road users.

Cllr Brian Jones, DCC's cabinet lead member for highways, planning and sustainable travel, said: “We fully recognise why people would want to come into this part of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, but we would urge people to use the designated car parks and not park in areas where there is clear signage banning parking.

“These signs are there to ensure that the traffic using the busy A494 in Loggerheads and Cadole can flow freely and it is safe for everyone. Some of the parking and double parking seen in recent times has caused some concern and the local communities have called for action to be taken.

“All we ask is that people stick to the designated areas and park responsibly.”
