A WOMAN who has found a purse containing simple items dating back more than half a century is trying to trace the family of the woman it belonged to.

Susan Hughes, who lives in Plas Hafod in Mold, said her plumber stumbled across the long-lost purse and other personal items in her airing cupboard.

She discovered they belonged to the first owner of the house, a Mrs Sarah Briggs and contacted the Leader about the find to see if Mrs Briggs or any of her relatives would be interested in receiving the items.

Susan said: “Judging by the contents it was lost over 50 years ago - about the time I was born.

“I just found it fascinating and wondered if any of her family would like her purse back.”

The contents - which have sat behind the water tank for more than 50 years - include money, a book of stamps and a rail privilege pass dated 1962.

A neighbour of Mrs Briggs has said she was a ‘lovely friendly lady’ and thinks she lived in the area until the mid to late 80’s.

Neighbour Freda went on to say that Mrs Briggs was from Bury and may have a granddaughter named Wendy living nearby.

Granddaughter Wendy’s father was named Bert Harper and may have been an architect according to Freda.

These items may have sentimental value to Mrs Briggs’ family and it would be great to give that piece of history back.

If anyone knows the family or has information that could reunite the purse with relatives please contact the Leader at news@leaderlive.co.uk
