A CHRISTMAS charity fundraising scheme was a massive success, a council chairman has said.

Cllr Gary Cooper, of Shotton town council, told members at the monthly meeting that he was pleased to have attended the Santa Sleigh and Christmas evening last month.

He said: "I was made to feel welcome in the Melrose Inn after all these years it was a good night. I was very pleasantly surprised by the Broughton singers and all the donations will go towards Deeside Hospital League of Friends."

Members heard how £144.82 was raised from going around the estate and dozens of children queued up to see Santa.

Cllr Mike Evans, who helped to organise the event, said: "I would like to thank again Shotton town council for donating the tree. It was the best one we have had.

"The feedback we had going around the streets was unbelievable. It makes you feel good."

Cllr Cooper was asked to turn on the Christmas lights, which he said was an honour. He added: "I could see on the faces of all your team how pleased they were with the response."
