Wrexham AFC and North Wales Police are investigating two alleged incidents that took place among a minority of home fans at Saturday’s match with Dover at the Racecourse.

Two incidents of alleged discriminatory behaviour were reported to the club, police and match officials on Saturday.

The investigations surround an incident close to the dugouts shortly after Dover scored their winner in the 1-0 away victory - and another centred on the Dover substitutes warming up at the side of the pitch earlier in the game.

A statement from Wrexham AFC said: "We would like to publicly offer our apologies to the players involved and all the officials, staff and supporters of Dover Football Club.

"North Wales Police are also carrying out their own investigation into reports about unacceptable behaviour of certain individuals, not only on Saturday but at other games this season, home and away.

"The club investigation will work alongside and fully support the police investigation, after three people were interviewed by the officers on duty at Saturdays match.

"Should any criminal prosecutions be necessary these individuals will also be subject to severe sanctions from the Club, including bans to all events held at the Racecourse.

"These investigations surround an incident close to the dugouts shortly after Dover scored their late winner, by examining footage from the club’s CCTV system and also from body-cams worn by security staff, to add to the statements of witnesses.

"A second issue was reported post-match and centred on the Dover substitutes warming up at the side of the pitch earlier in the game.

"We encourage any supporters who have witnessed these events and are able to pass on their information to the Football Club to contact us in confidence, as this will help us identify those people involved, as we continue to review the evidence we have already collected."

Supt Jane Banham of North Wales Police said: "We have received reports of alleged racist and other unacceptable behaviour at the Wrexham v Dover Athletic football  match on Saturday.

"Officers are working closely with Wrexham AFC to establish the facts. Anyone with information which could assist our enquiries should contact https://www.north-wales.police.uk/contact/live-chat-support"
