PLANS to turn a garage into a home could ruin the area, town councillors have said.

An application for the demolition of a garage was put forward to Connah's Quay town councillors at the monthly meeting, but members objected.

The scheme, which has been received by Flintshire Council, proposes that the property at Belmont Avenue be turned into a three bedroom bungalow.

Cllr Bernie Attridge, who is deputy leader of Flintshire Council as well as a town and county councillor, said: "I see this as someone trying to make a quick buck.

"We are expressing our views as a town council but every man and his dog will be saying let's turn our garage into a three bedroom property.

"We at county are always concerned about car parking and now you want to knock a garage down and squeeze another house in between two beautiful properties."

Councillors said it would ruin the scenery and Cllr Chris Risley told members it would be impractical.

Cllr Alan Roberts said: "I'm against this, chair. If we allow them to turn a garage into a three bedroom bungalow we will have anyone wanting to do it.

“I would object to that and I would ask for your support as a council and also if the Clerk could write to our ward member - Martin White - and tell him what our decision was."

Members were told Cllr Martin White had arranged an unofficial site visit next week to see the property and provide streetscene with a picture of the area.

Cllr Attridge added: "County council are doing this outside the normal process. We are objecting to the whole application and we want it thrown out."

Members of the town council voted unanimously against the planning application.
