THE annual Victorian Christmas Market attracted a record number of visitors to Wrexham this year, the council has revealed.

Figures have just been released which show 32,823 people visited the town centre on December 6 to attend the extremely popular event, which was held in St Giles Church and church grounds and Regent Streets, with more than 100 stalls offering a variety of festive fare.

Cllr Mark Pritchard, leader of the council, said: “This is an amazing figure and is fantastic news for those who work in the town centre.

“I know that people came from across the region and they were delighted by what was on offer including the street entertainment and the magical atmosphere that the town centre has this year.

“The new lights have also made a big difference and I would like to thank everyone involved for making sure this year’s event, and all the other Christmas events, have been so successful.”

It comes after the final Christmas event – the Christmas Village, held on Llwyn Isaf and Queens Square last weekend for the first time, saw an estimated 27,000 thousand visit across three days – specific figures can’t be given because there are no foot counters in the area.

However, estimates show figures of about 7,500 on the Friday; 6,000 on the Saturday (which suffered an early closing time due to the adverse weather) and 13,500 on the Sunday.
