HUW GRIFFITHS insists that Cefn Druids "weren't up for the hard yards of football" as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat at Llanelli Town.

A goal in either half from James Loveridge and Chris Jones made sure that Llanelli, who have now won three matches this season, completed a league double of Druids.

Griffiths conceded: "We almost didn't get off the bus.

"Their hunger and desire was greater than ours. We didn't turn up, we weren't at the races.

"They were determined to win and although Carrots (Mike Jones) hasn't had much to do in our goal, they scored twice and won the game."

Defeat, coupled with results elsewhere, means Druids are eight points adrift of the top six, which Griffiths believes is almost certainly out of his side's reach.

"The top six is still likely until it's mathematically not," said Griffiths. "But we would probably have to win ever game."

Griffiths, who has seen Mo Samassa depart The Rock by mutual consent, was keen to praise hosts Llanelli.

The Druids boss said: "I'm not sure how they are where they are. They play out from the back, which can lead to problems, but they always managed to find a way of beating our press.

"They defended really well and attacked when they could.

"James Loveridge is as good as any striker, along with Mo Touray, that we've come up against.

"Some teams have other teams number and it looks like Llanelli have got ours."

Llandudno slumped to the foot of the table after they were beaten 2-1 by visiting Carmarthen.

Greg Walters and Ceri Morgan scored either side of a Gary Taylor-Fletcher leveller to earn the Old Gold the spoils.

At the other end of the table, The New Saints regained top spot courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Barry Town United.

A penalty from Greg Draper and Joash Nembhard handed Saints the points against Barry, who had Touray sent-off on boss Gavin Chesterfield's 400th game in charge.

Chesterfield tweeted: "Shame about the result, but credit to @tnsfc. Proud to reach 400 games as manager of @BarryTownUnited the time has flown by!"

Saints climbed to the top on goal difference with Connah's Quay Nomads out of domestic action.

Aberystwyth Town are now just three points off top spot in fifth after they beat fourth placed Bala Town 3-2 to extend their winning run to five matches.

Declan Walker struck a stoppage time winner for Nev Powell's men after Geoff Kellaway and Ashley Ruane had cancelled out Steve Tames' double for Bala.

Striker Ruane tweeted: "Brilliant shift again from the lads @AberystwythTown, and another 3-2 away win with a stoppage time winner. Only what we deserved though and brilliant to keep our fantastic support singing in the stands."

Caernarfon Town gave their top six chances a welcome boost courtesy of a 2-0 home success over Cardiff Met, who had Dylan Rees sent-off.

First-half goals from Noah Edwards and Gareth Edwards handed the Canaries an important three points.

Edwards tweeted: "Get in, finally won two on the bounce!!! Massive win to keep us in touch with top six. Another clean sheet, a goal, MOM in front of the cameras and most importantly three points. Brilliant support as always from the Cofi Army. Lads were class to a man."
