POLICE were told a man would be driving from his home in Rhos to Llangollen without insurance.

Officers stopped Robert Gerrard Shone, 44, and found he was a banned driver.

It emerged he had been disqualified for dangerous driving in Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester in 2005 for dangerous driving – and until he passed an extended driving test.

Emma Simoes, defending, told North East Wales Magistrates Court that Shone had changed his life completely.

He was no longer using substances, he was working and was completing an engineering degree course in college.

Shone, Ms Simoes told the Mold court, was in a stable life with a partner and things were going extremely well for him.

Shone, of Erw Las in Rhos, received a 12 week prison sentence suspended for a year and was ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work.

He was also disqualified for an additional 12 months and told to pay £85 costs and a £115 surcharge.

Shone was reminded by district Judge Roger Lowe that he would be remain banned until the extended test had been passed.
