HUNDREDS of people across the county came together to commemorate the end of the First World War.

Remembrance services were held throughout Flintshire in memory of those that lost their lives and those whose lives were changed forever.

Services were held in towns and villages across the county and residents united for a two minutes silence to reflect on the events of the past as well as laying wreaths and crosses to remember relatives and friends.

The streets of Flintshire were filled with residents, community groups, councillors and Assembly Members, all marking the special remembrance event.

Cllr Peter Davies, Secretary of the Shotton and Connah's Quay InterServices Committee said: "The importance of today is we are commemorating the 100 years of the end of the first world war. It's the exact date, 11 of the 11 when armistice was signed and all hostilities ceased."

The councillor organised the special service in Connah's Quay, which saw hundreds of people turn up to pay their respects.

Jack Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside, attended the event and he said: "It was a great event to come to today. It is the first service of mine as an official event for me. Last year I attended on behalf of dad which was a touching tribute and today was a touching moment.

"The most heartwarming for me was the number of children here and children's groups. The boy and girl from the guides and scouts who read the poem was a beautiful moment and I think we should be proud of the town and councillor Peter Davies."
