A PENSIONER has transformed his garden to encourage people to support the British Legion.

Len Jones, of Willow Park, Mancot, has spent hours creating a Remembrance Display in his front garden to remind people to buy their poppy ahead of the centenary.

The 85-year-old said he has been transforming his garden to celebrate various events such as the World Cup, the Olympics and the Six Nations Rugby, but this time he wanted to do something to mark the 100 years since the end of the First World War.

He added: "I've done this to remind everybody that it's the 100 years since the First World War and to buy poppies to support the British Legion.

"A lot of people could do more to support the British Legion because a lot of people forget, nearly every house in the British Isles was affected, with someone going to war.

"My uncle died, I didn't even know him. I wasn't born until 1933 and he died in 1917. If people could reflect on it more, then we wouldn't have the trouble we have now. The generation today, we are going backwards I think."

Len said the display took three hours to make and himself and his wife Doreen choose to spend their time making things to showcase in their garden for people to enjoy.
