A project to change the approach to how homelessness is handled has been launched at Ty Pawb in Wrexham.

Project Home is the brainchild of local Mum Georgia Adams, who along with fellow founder Fia Lancaster-McGrath, said the event on Wednesday evening was about bringing about social change and that the change must happen now.

Georgie said: "It was an incredible night and there are so many people I want to thank, including those people that have kindly spread the word about what and who we are and to Ty Pawb for hosting the event.

"We are all about injecting positivity into our town and into the community. We believe that all people should be treated equally and given the opportunities they deserve."

Georgie explained the huge strain homelessness places on the public sector but with a new way of thinking, and working with people rather than against them, these pressures can eventually be reduced, but that it needs a complete change, from people and businesses alike.

She said: "As much as this is an issue that effects us all greatly, businesses, the public and health sector and the wider community, we have to remind ourselves what these people are going through on a daily basis."

The long term goal of Project Home is to be able to provide safe and supportive accommodation and to bring the services people need, such as recovery from addiction under one roof so its easily accessible, but the work they do currently, including going out on the streets to spend time talking and listening to people and providing them with food and clothes.

Fia said: "We’ve been informed by a few local police, that the work that we are doing is already having an impact on the town.

"They have noticed a marked improvement on the general behaviour of the homeless community."

The launch evening was attended by over 100 people, including Ian Bancroft, Chief Executive of Wrexham Council who said the idea was an inspiring one and with nearly 40 volunteer forms taken by people interesting in helping out, the future looks a little brighter for those that live on Wrexham's streets.

Georgie added: "We call our volunteers 'our homies' and I would really like to say a special thank you to them, they've worked so hard and we are truly blessed to work alongside such amazing and compassionate people."
