A WOMAN who has been the cook at a Glyn Ceiriog school for more than three decades has retired.

Nerys Jones was the cook at Ysgol Llanarmon DC for 31 years, and she decided to retire at the start of the new school term last month.

The staff and school have been thanking her for everything she has done for the school throughout her time there.

Lora Sockett is a key stage two teacher at the school, she said: “Nerys really is such a big loss to the school.

“She has been an ever-present here for students and staff over the past few decades.

“It will be very different without her here for sure – she’s been absolutely fantastic with the children and they will really miss her.”

Children at the school organised a leaving party for the popular staff member before she left.

Lora said: “The children here organised a tea party to say farewell to Nerys as she prepared to leave.

“It was a lovely way to say bye to her.

“All the children and staff attended, and we brought along some of the school’s previous headteachers and members of staff to share their many stories and memories of working alongside Nerys.

“She will be deeply missed by everyone here at Ysgol Llanarmon DC and we thank her for everything she’s done over the past 31 years.”
