PEOPLE travelling through Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn may have been startled by seeing a man upside down in a hedge or a giant gingerbread man.

But don't worry, you are not seeing things - what you will have seen were in fact entries into the community's scarecrow competition.

A number of residents have in recent weeks taken to the task of creating the most striking scarecrow as part of the competition, which was organised by the Gwernaffield and Pantymwyn Community Council.

Some of the scarecrows included Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as the happy couple, a rock band, a giant spider, King Arthur, a cat burglar and a drunken man.

The top three, voted by a panel of judges on the community council, were King Arthur and Excalibur on Pen y Fron road in third, the Gingerbread man on Y Waen in second place and the winner being the portrayal of rock band 'Coldplay' on Pen y Fron road.

The winners will be each given £25, £15 and £10 respectively and will be given out at the community's event to mark the centenary year of the ending of World War One on November 9.
