TRIBUTES have been paid to a talented teenage cricketer who has died suddenly.

Gwersyllt is in mourning after the death of Morgan Davies, 19, some time between Sunday and Monday.

Mr Davies lived with his father Martyn, a Gwersyllt Community Councillor and stepmother Angela in Summerhill Park, Summerhill.

As recently as Saturday Mr Davies put in a match-winning performance for Gwersyllt Park Cricket Club's second XI against Marchwiel in the North Wales Cricket League, scoring 31 runs.

A former Ysgol Bryn Alyn pupil, he was tipped for a bright future in the game and club officials have led the tributes.

Gwersyllt Park CC chairman Phil Huckridge said: "It's all still very raw.

"He was a great lad, full of life and was the life and soul of every game.

"Morgan was a local lad who came up through the ranks at the club.

"He played the game for us on Saturday and won us the game as well.

"We are all very shocked and everyone will really miss him."

Gwersyllt Cllr David Griffiths said: "I've known him since he was a baby and he’d always said ‘how do’ whenever I saw him out and about. Lovely lad, full of joy.

"I know everyone always says things like this, but he was just a genuine nice lad.

"He came from a very loving family."

Fellow Gwersyllt County Cllr Tina Mannering added: "He enjoyed his trial bikes and loved cricket and most of all enjoyed making his friends smile.

"He will be sadly missed by all.

"The village is in mourning at such a loss.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time."
