A SCHEME to build more than 20 new homes could make roads riskier and affect the stability of nearby houses.

That is the view of residents of Pen y Coed Road in Buckley over plans to construct 23 houses on a field to the rear of their road.

According to a design and access statement, the development - the site for which is specified as land at Bank Lane in Drury - would 'allow an expansion within a sustainable location on what is currently vacant land' and would have a 'minimal impact'.

But Pen y Coed Road resident Patricia Shone, 82, has told the Leader that residents find driving onto the main road from theirs risky enough without the prospect of additional traffic.

She said: "There have been attempts to develop the field several times. And our concern is not so much the houses, but it is the roads.

"You take your life in your hands trying to get out - you have to be very careful.

"They come up so quickly, it is like a racetrack. And with this there would be even more."

Pauline Massey, also a resident of Pen y Coed Road, explained the back wall of her garden - which faces onto the site - is cracking and believes properties in the road have existing subsidence issues.

She said: "There is no stability as it is - with any vibration that wall is going to go and we'll all end up in the field. This is actually a feeding ground for peregrine falcons as well.

"There are plenty of other places they could be building. There is no need for them to build here."

The design and access statement adds the development would provide a mix of 'much needed housing to the area'.
