THE curtain has risen on Wrexham’s £4.5m arts hub and market.

A day of celebrations was held to mark the opening of T? Pawb in the old People’s Market building, with members of the public packing out the new facility.

Wrexham Council deputy leader Cllr Hugh Jones, who unveiled the official plaque said of the opening: “I am very pleased and proud to be here along with representatives from the Arts Council Wales, and members of the arts and markets community in Wrexham.

“T? Pawb is something we have all worked hard to deliver for the people of Wrexham and the wider areas. It’s innovative and exciting and shows both our commitment to our markets and to the thriving arts scene in Wrexham.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in this project and wish them a successful future. Particular thanks should go to the Arts Council Wales. Without their generous financial support none of this would have happened and I am very happy that their chair, Phil George is with us today to mark this occasion.”

Before the official opening, there was a parade from Hope Street led by North Wales act Band Pres Llareggub Bras Band. It also featured six giant sculptures each representing different aspects of Wrexham’s history and community.

Many of the town’s charities, youth and community organisations made up the parade, which made its way through the town centre to the main entrance of T? Pawb on Market Street.

The day boasted performances from the likes of The Big Beat, Wrexham Community Choir, Popstarz Academy, Delta Academy Choir, Baby Brave and Black Park Accordion Club.

The public outlook at T? Pawb appeared positive. Nia Jones, from Wrexham, said: “I really like the industrial look of the place, I really like the gallery and the art space. It’s a nice mix of things.”

Tracy Theunissen, of Acton in Wrexham, said: “I’m quite impressed. It’s inviting, I think it’s got potential and I think it’s going to be good for Wrexham.”
