THE LIFE and stories of a community rugby club will be shown to millions worldwide as part of an advertising campaign during the World Cup.

Flint Rugby Club will become familiar to fans throughout the tournament as footage from there is incorporated in adverts for Land Rover during commercial breaks.

Players, volunteers and senior officials at Flint spent two days filming with a crew working on behalf of Land Rover in the spring.

The club was the only one picked by the vehicle manufacturer from 50 throughout Wales and is one of just 11 community clubs worldwide to feature in the commercials.

Flint head coach Aled Davies, said he had been obliged to remain tight-lipped about the club’s impending fame since filming, but was now excited at the prospect of the increased publicity that the Land Rover adverts would bring.

He said last night: “What they liked about us was the sense of togetherness we have as a club and the family atmosphere we create. We’re sure it will portray us in a good light.”

Footage will include scenes of members push-starting their club minibus and secretary Dave Hughes cutting the grass on a tractor. Mr Davies added: “I gave them a few different stories.

“I hope we get the publicity for it. Our pitch is becoming unplayable and we definitely need to raise some money for that.”

Mr Davies added the club had been given 30 tickets for the Wales v Uruguay game at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday and players and officials would be travelling to Cardiff to cheer on the home team.
