A RALLYING cry has gone out to save a historic building amid fears it will go to wrack and ruin.

More than 500 people have joined a Facebook group launched to save Cornist Hall in Flint.

The ‘Save Cornist Hall’ group hopes to bring the building back into community use.
The hall was once the home of the Summers steel family and had more recently been used as dining, wedding and banqueting venue.

The historic building was on the market for an asking price of £750,000 three years ago, but the previous owners, Cornist Hall Ltd, has now stopped trading and gone into receivership.

Now the campaign group is hoping it can be taken over by the community and restored to its former glory.

Chris Evans, who spearheaded the campaign, said: “Cornist Hall holds a lot of memories for people in Flint and we want to keep it running for our children.

“Hopefully when they grow up they will be able to go there and enjoy nights out like we used to.

“It would be nice if the people of Flint could own it.”

Group member Theresa Williams added: “It’s part of the heritage of the town – tourists don’t just want to see the castle.

“If it was bought back, by the council or the community, I think it could make a profit.”

Fellow member Geraldine Lever said: “We would like to see it used as a wedding venue and hotel as it’s an important part of Flint.

“We don’t want to see it go to wrack and ruin.”

Campaign member Jenny Leach added: “We have enough volunteers who would help refurbish it.”
