A NEW mechanical biological treatment plant is planned for Wrexham recycling park.

Proposals for the next phase of development at Bryn Lane on Wrexham Industrial Estate will be put on display at a public exhibition on August 18 and 19.

The mechanical biological treatment (MBT) site will separate out residual waste, and ‘bio-dry’ the remaining materials to produce solid recovered fuel, which can be used as an alternative for fossil fuels in industry.

The facility will be designed to incorporate a number of measures to ensure odour and noise levels are controlled, and mitigated to an acceptable level.

Newsletters are being posted to residents and businesses within two miles as well as local community representatives and organisations.

Further information will be provided at the exhibition from 1pm to 8pm in the Atrium Suite of Redwither Tower, Redwither Trading Estate, Redwither Business Park.

David Rees, project manager for Waste Recycling Group, said: “Phase two of development will enable Wrexham County Borough Council to meet its future recycling, composting and diversion of waste from landfill targets. We very much hope that people will come to the public exhibition, discuss the proposed development and let us know what they think.”

The MBT facility would be developed on vacant land adjacent to the existing phase one plant, and utilise existing site access.

The proposed building will be of a similar size, colour and specification to the buildings developed in phase one, and include landscaping works and conservation initiatives.

Those unable to attend the exhibitions will be able to download copies of the exhibition boards from at www.wrgwrexham.co.uk from August 18.

Comments received will be analysed and, where possible, amendments made to the proposals.

A planning application is due to be submitted in September and it is hoped the facility will be operational by mid 2014.
