TWENTY-ONE members of Wrexham Swimming Club will be splashing out in a national competition in Cardiff this weekend.

They will compete in Gemau Cymru, a school sports tournament which will be held in locations across the capital.

It aims to capture the inspiration of the London 2012 Olympic Games and deliver a lasting sports legacy for Wales.

Being held over three days between Friday and Sunday, it will give the young swimmers the perfect platform to showcase their talents. Gemau Cymru is also an opportunity for the public to see for themselves how Welsh sport and Welsh athletes will benefit from the 2012 Olympic Games legacy.

Wrexham Swimming Club’s head coach Mike Price said: “Our members will be travelling down to Cardiff as a team and performing in front of other athletes.

“As with the 2012 Olympic Games themselves, they will be living together in an athletes’ village and having a taste of what the Olympic team will be going through while they are competing.

“All the team put in hours of training at Wrexham Waterworld each week and this is great recognition of their dedication and commitment.”
