A MAN has been released on police bail after a woman died in a car crash.
A 39-year-old – believed to be local – was pronounced dead at the scene of the two-car collision on the A5118 at Padeswood near Buckley.
The crash happened at about 8.20pm on Saturday on the outskirts of the village and the woman, who has not yet been named, was a passenger in one of the vehicles.
A 37-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash and later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Ambulance and fire crews were called to the collision which involved a silver Volvo and a red Vauxhall Corsa. The road was closed until 3am on Sunday while police carried out investigations.
A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We assisted with lighting and made the vehicle safe. We also helped with getting the casualty out of the vehicle using cutting equipment."
The ambulance service has confirmed no one else was seriously injured.
The North East Wales coroner’s office has been informed of the death by police who are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to call them on 101.
Penyffordd councillor David Williams was driving towards Mold on Saturday evening when he came across the collision scene.
“We pulled up behind it and had to go back,” he said. “The ambulance had just arrived and there was nothing we could do so we turned around and went back through Buckley.”
Buckley councillor Dennis Hutchinson said he thought the road was deceptive.
He said: “My condolences go to the family. It's very sad.”
Fellow Buckley councillor Ron Hampson added: “It's quite a fast road but it's not known for having and bad bends or anything like that.”
