A MAN who allegedly used a Samurai sword to repeatedly stab the front door of a Saltney pub has appeared in court.

Peter Anthony Williams, 39, has been charged with having an offensive weapon and causing criminal damage following an alleged incident.

A hearing at Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston Magistrates Court yesterday was told Williams had been with some family members at the City Arms, Saltney, at about 1pm on Saturday when an argument broke out.

The court heard Williams, of Sycamore Drive, Lache, Chester, left the pub shortly before landlord Gerrard Oliver also left the building on a separate matter.

According to the prosecution Williams returned to the Chester Road pub holding a Samurai sword.

It is alleged Mr Oliver saw Williams making his way back to the pub holding a sword which caused Mr Oliver to rush back to the pub and lock the doors.

Williams is accused of causing damage totalling £50 by stabbing the pub's front before leaving the scene.

Police, the court heard, arrested Williams at about 4pm on Saturday. He was remanded in custody until his court appearance yesterday.

The case was adjourned until Thursday when CCTV evidence of the alleged incident will be shown. Meanwhile, Williams was remanded in custody.
