TWO dedicated crimefighters have been given the task of policing a key area of Wrexham.

Inspector Paul Jones of Coedpoeth Police Station has organised a reshuffle of resources across the north of the county.

It means the eight PCs covering specific beats in Wrexham North will go down to six but the other two will work more flexibly to cover the entire district.

Wrexham North includes Coedpoeth, Gwersyllt, New Broughton, Llay, Rossett, Holt and the surrounding villages and hamlets.

Insp Jones said the two officers, PC Tim Lever and PC Scott Duncan would mostly work in plain clothes in an unmarked vehicle.

He added: “If crime levels rose in an area the two would help out the PC already covering that district.

“If there was a spate of vehicle crime for example, rather than just one PC going to look at it we have got three officers on the case.

“It will allow us to target the crime when and where it happens and we will have extra officers to look into it.

“We will also have different shift patterns to deal with crime as it happens.”

Insp Jones said the reshuffle followed a North Wales Police staffing review, but that each of the 14 wards in Wrexham North will still have their own dedicated PCSO.

He said: “There have been recent changes in staff and finances and there is quite an imbalance.

“This way I think that the district as a whole will be better policed.

“The other officers will have a larger geographical area to cover but will get extra help from the two officers when needed. When a spike in crime is identified we will be able to target it more effectively."
