A CHARITY walk organised by a terminally ill mum raised an impressive £29,000.

The walk up Snowdon set up by Vikki Purslow smashed the original target of £10,000 and a further £6,000 is expected still to be raised.

Vikki, 27, of Coedpoeth, was diagnosed with cancer throughout her body in May and has been told by doctors she only has months to live.

More than 140 people took part in the walk on Saturday including Vikki’s husband Matthew and her daughter Amelie, five.

Among the organisers of the walk was Richard Lunt, an old school friend of Vikki.

He said: “It was fantastic and went really well.

“Vikki met everyone at the end and it was quite emotional.

“The amount raised is phenomenal – Vikki was just over the moon.”

Chemotherapy treatment for the mum-of-two has now stopped and Vikki wants to spend as much time with her family as possible.

Speaking about the money raised, which will be split between Nightingale House Hospice and the Willow Foundation, Vikki said: “It’s fantastic.

“I was never expecting to get that much.

“A huge thank you goes out to everyone that took part.

“It was really emotional to see everybody again – some people I haven’t seen since school.”

It is now hoped the walk up Snowdon will become an annual event for Vikki.

The mum’s next charity effort is to organise a fun day in Coedpoeth on August 22.

This time the cash raised will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and Nightingale House.
