LLANFAIR 3, YSCEIFIOG 3
IT was a case of better late than never as far as Ysceifiog were concerned at Llanfair.
Trailing 3-2 with time fast running out, Danny Jones’ side were able to pick up only their fifth point away from home courtesy of Tim Hughes’ last minute effort.
“Overall, I think it was a fair result and it was a good game,” said Llanfair player-boss Roger Beech.
If ever there appeared to be a home banker, this was it.
Ysceifiog had won just once in eight games on their travels this season ahead of Monday, while Llanfair went into the game boasting five home wins on the bounce.
One of the best goals seen at the Llan Siro this season gave Llanfair the lead early on.
Tom Strapps scored a belter for the hosts, in the style of Carlos Tevez for Argentina at the weekend!
However, back came Ysceifiog and before the break they found themselves 2-1 up.
Mark Parry and Joe Mulvey got the goals to hand the Flintshire side the lead.
That’s how it remained until the midway point of the second half, when Llanfair restored parity.
Dan Ward’s free kick found Alan Davies, who glanced in a header for 2-2.
With five minutes remaining, Llanfair were back in front with a route one goal.
Goalkeeper Steve Roberts’ long clearance went all the way through for Alan Davies to score again.
That was the cue for Ysceifiog to throw everything into attack, and after Roberts had made a good save, the visitors did level with Tim Hughes’ last minute goal.
Ysceifiog’s man of the match was Tom Jones.
