A GRANDMOTHER whose car was destroyed by a fire fears that arsonists started the blaze.

Lorraine Greenough, of School Lane, Greenfield, awoke to her Vauxhall Astra engulfed in flames in the early hours of Thursday.

The 56-year-old, who works at the British Legion in Flint, said such incidents were very rare in her home village.

“I would be quite worried if it was arsonists because I get on with everybody,” Lorraine told the Leader.

“The people round here are usually nice people and things like this don’t happen in Greenfield.”

Speaking about events on the night of the incident she said: “My boyfriend Colin Powell and I had been to the pub with some friends and came home about 11.30pm.

“We watched TV for a while and we were fast asleep by 1am. The next thing there was a big bang and when we looked out of the window there was an orange glow where the flames were.”

One fire crew from Flint used two hose reel and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze.

Investigators are struggling to find the cause of the fire because the car has been reduced to a wreckage.

“It is just a shell,” said Lorraine. “The fire service couldn’t say how it started because there was absolutely nothing left of the car.

“We can only claim on the insurance when we know what started the fire.”

Holywell town councillor Mickey Mills has called for CCTV cameras in the village, while Greenfield councillor Rosetta Dolphin said there is no place for arsonists in Greenfield.

“There were problems before with youths but it has all settled,” she said.

“We have been so quiet lately and we have had no problems.

“I hope the peace has not been shattered and this is just a blip. There is no place for this kind of thing in Greenfield.”
